Cannabis‐based medicines for chronic neuropathic pain in adults
Cochrane | Published on 1/19/2026
A new Cochrane systematic review evaluated the benefits and harms of cannabis-based medicines for adults with chronic neuropathic pain. Based on evidence from 21 randomized controlled trials involving more than 2,100 participants, the review found no clear evidence that cannabis-based medicines provide clinically meaningful pain relief compared with placebo. Some THC-containing products were associated with increased adverse effects, including dizziness and drowsiness. The authors conclude that larger, higher-quality studies are needed before firm conclusions can be drawn regarding the benefits and harms of cannabis-based medicines for chronic neuropathic pain.
